Default Setting up 301 Redirects and SEO

301 redirects are useful for search engine optimization and protecting other domains that you may have.

Redirecting to another domain

If you have for example iukhost.com and you want to get other extensions such as .org and .net but do not want to create a new website for those domain, you can simply redirect them to the .com domain.

To redirect one site to another in cPanel follow these instructions:

Preliminary Steps

Firstly you need to addon the domain that you wish to redirect.

1. Login to cPanel > Addon Domains

2. Enter the new domain name and then press the tab key. This will fill out the FTP and folder data.

3. Enter a password for the new domain and then click add.

Redirecting the Domain

1. Login to cPanel > Redirects

2. Redirect Type > Permanent (301)

3. From the drop down list select the domain you wish to redirect, for example domain2.com.

4. Enter in the Redirects to box > http://www.domain1.com

5. Leave selected > Redirect with or without www.

6. Then click add.

(There is no need to check the wild card redirect box)

Redirecting domains without www.

If you do not have this redirect setup, search engines will see your domain as two different websites.

They will see:

http://yourdomain.com and > http://www.yourdomain.com as two separate websites. The best thing to do is rediect the one without the www.

1. Login to cPanel > Redirects

2. Redirect Type > Permanent (301)

3. From the drop down list select the domain you wish to redirect, for example domain.com.

4. Enter in the Redirects to box > http://www.domain.com

5. Select > Do Not Redirect www.

6. Then click add.

(There is no need to check the wild card redirect box)
